American Red Cross Lifeguarding Instructor (LGI) Certification Course

Age Requirement

Individuals wishing to partake in the American Red Cross Lifeguarding Course must be 17 years old by the last day of the course.

Lifeguarding Skill Requirement

Candidates must complete a prerequisite skill assessment, which evaluates the following.

  • Entry
  • Swimming approach
  • Surface dive in deep water (7 to 10 feet)
  • Passive submerged rescue
  • Rapid extrication (with an assisting rescuer)
  • Rapid assessment
  • Single-rescuer CPR (3 minutes)

Lifeguarding Certification Requirement

Participants must process a current (non-expired) American Red Cross Lifeguarding (Including Deep Water) Certification to partake in the course.
